Compliance and Integrity

Our commitment to compliance and integrity is spearheaded by Altria senior officers and driven by our employees. In 2007, the overwhelmingly positive employee feedback in our second biennial compliance and integrity survey confirmed that our efforts to meet this commitment are succeeding. Survey results also helped us strengthen our compliance programs and identify areas of focus for the future. Working with compliance organizations, as well as leading corporate thinkers, Altria continues to seek out and pioneer best practices and proven strategies in its ongoing pursuit of high ethical standards.

Contributions

Altria again partnered with not-for-profit and community organizations to provide resources to people in need. Our 2007 programs helped supply food and nutritional services, assist victims of domestic violence, support artistic innovation and aid people affected by natural disasters.

Our giving included grants for programs to deliver nutritional meals to people living with HIV/ AIDS and other critical illnesses. We also supported service organizations that provide food for needy families and the homebound elderly, and organizations leading the effort to end hunger and malnutrition, including the Congressional Hunger Center, Food & Friends, God’s Love We Deliver and the Food Bank for New York City.

In our continued commitment to assisting victims and survivors of domestic violence, we supported organizations that provide shelter and services to battered women and their children. We also funded the production of the short film, UnSafe, part of a national initiative by Safe Horizon’s SafeWork Project to increase awareness of domestic violence in the workplace.

We continued to encourage diverse artistic expression in 2007. Highlights include sponsorship of an exhibition of contemporary Latino and Latin-American artists at New York City’s El Museo del Barrio; American Ballet Theatre’s Voices and Vision: The Women’s Choreography Project; and The First Impressionist: Eugène Boudin, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond.

When the worst wildfires in California history forced the evacuation of more than half a million residents, Altria supported relief efforts by the American Red Cross and local organizations.

Employee Involvement

In 2007, our employees again demonstrated their spirit of giving through the donation of personal time and money to charitable causes. Their contributions to local and national not-for-profit organizations were supplemented by Altria’s Employee Matching Gifts programs.
